ACADEMIC REFERENCE LETTER :-
An academic letter of recommendation is typically written by a teacher for a current or former student. The letter may serve one of a variety of purposes; it may be a recommendation for college, a scholarship, a special college program, or a fellowship. Sometimes students also require academic recommendations when applying for jobs or internships, particularly if the job relates to their academic interests. When high school students apply to their first jobs, they may rely on academic recommendations due to their lack of work experience.
An academic letter of recommendation is a 1-2 page letter that highlights a student's academic history, character, and academic and/or career goals. The letter expands upon a student's report card or transcript, providing insight into what kind of student and/or potential employee they are.
Guidance counselors, administrators, and supervisors may also write academic letters of recommendation for students.
Academic recommendation can be done for different reasons. It can be done by the teacher to recommend the student for getting admission in college or school or it can be done by principal for recommending the teacher in any other college or school.
There are certain things you need to keep in mind when writing the academic recommendation letters:
• Reference letter should not be more than one page; however, it can sometimes be written up to two pages
• Include the anecdotes of the applicant's accomplishments and gained skills
• Address the letter to the person who will be reading it. If you don't know the name of the person, call in the company and ask for the name. If this is not possible, simply write, "To Whom It May Concern"
• After the initial salutations, start the letter providing the introduction of the writer and telling to the employer the relation between writer and the referred candidate
• Second paragraph will include the information of the skills and traits of the applicant. For academic recommendation, you must focus on the academic details of the applicant. If you are recommending the student in the college, you need to focus on the academic record of the student in school. If referring the teacher in college/school, you can talk of the years of experience of the applicant working in school/college
• Last paragraph must convince the employer to hire the applicant or admit the student. Here you can explain how the applicant can add quality to the organization if given a chance
• End the letter mentioning that you expect a response from the employer. Tell the employer that you are awaiting response from them.
